this is the time of year when this song is playing in my mind on repeat when life feels bittersweet because i love summer but it sure is hard to be a work from home mom i love these words from anna kunneke "I have been thinking a lot about how we turn from season to season in our lives-- how we become the next version of ourselves. Partly it's this time of year, this strange in-between limbo where it's still hot as blazes and everyone is in flip flops posting beach pictures, but some places kids are already back at school, and there are pumpkins in the store and pumpkin spice in the lattes but also we're all reluctant to let go of summer until after Labor Day, and these last summer days feel extra precious and surreal as they dwindle" sigh, it's back to school time here's the tips i've followed to make our back to school as smooth sailing as possible tip #1: delete apps from your phone this past week i deleted & from my phone this may be seemingly unrelated to back to school but i promise you the more present you are the least amount of time you're on a device is a 10 fold increase in cooperation from your children the first day i always miss those apps like i'm missing a dear friend day 2 and onward i want to get rid of my phone as well :) tip #2: PLAY as we say in positive discipline connection = cooperation PLAY is the #1 way to connect with your kiddos get down on the ground the floor or head outside and follow your kids around in play anything you have to do to prep them for back to school will flow 100% easier after you've connected with your children in their world even for 10 minutes PLAY is everything tip #3: family meetings prep your kids for success in their back to school with a family meeting positive discipline style get your kids on board with the back to school schedule + flow in a democratic way which will make your 1st week of schoool ssssooo much easier would you like more FREE tips + tools? check out the back to school survival alison smith & I hosted last year and this back to school post i wrote for single moms planet wishing you all smooothing sailing and back to school bliss |
Mama Megan
Hi friends, I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative." This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family! Archives
