I love tea, and Tea Chai Te is my favorite tea company and tea shop. Their amazing tea blends are out of this world, and their tea houses warm and cozy. Angela and Dom run their family business like a family-- and Tea Chai Te has even been spotted on Portlandia a few times. Check out their award winning teas, and my all-time favorite tea in the whole world. I interviewed Jessica, the Regional Manager of Tea Chai Te about what she loves about her work, the company, and the holiday season. Tea Chai Te has donated a beautiful Beehouse teapot and an apothecary gift pack full of herbal teas to the 12 Days of Christmas gift giving. Thank you, Tea Chai for nourishing us with tea and community for the past 10 years! What do you love about your work? The best part of Tea Chai Te is being part of a loving and supportive work environment. There's a lot of care that goes into our tea blends and our tea tenders are there to find the right tea for you. What is your favorite Tea Chai Te gift for the holidays? Our gift packs are a great way to introduce your loved ones, or yourself, to a variety of teas at once. The holidays are also a great time to stock up on our holiday blends, like our Gingerbread Chai! If you're in Portland, stop by the tea shop on NW 23rd or the Sellwood Caboose Tea Shop for a yummy holiday tea. What's your family's favorite holiday tradition? Nothing beats a fresh cut tree for the holiday! Every Black Friday we skip the shopping and head out to Sauvie Island for hot cocoa and running around the tree grove in search of the perfect pine! Meet Jess, owner and creator extraordinaire, and mom to a three year old little boy. Jess shares a bit about what she loves about her business, her favorite Little Beasties items for the holidays, and one of her family's favorite Christmas traditions. Comment on my Facebook page by midnight on December 4th to enter to win two little beasties for a little love in your life. Free continental U.S. shipping. Thanks Jess for your awesome contributions to the world of handmade toys! What do you love about your business Little Beasties? I love the design process and creating new concepts. I spend a lot of time throughout the day watching what my toddler plays with, and trying to come up with a way to translate it into cloth. There's a lot of trial and error that goes into design and pattern testing, and it is by far the most frustrating part of the process, but it's also the most rewarding. What's a treasured holiday tradition in your family? Our book advent calendar is easily the whole family's favorite. We collect books throughout the year, and hide them away in our son's closet. He gets new books during the year on rare occasions, but for the most part we stick to the library during the year. On November 30, after he's in bed, I wrap all the books, put numbers on them, and put them under the tree. He gets to unwrap one a night, and we read it together in our bed before we tuck him into his. Christmas Eve's book is always The Night Before Christmas (we just rewrap that one every year). My son is already looking forward to that part of December! What's your favorite Little Beastie holiday gifts? There are a lot of really great holiday gift ideas in my shop, but my favorite one is probably the hanky toy. It's a simple concept that goes over so well with babies and toddlers up to age 5. What infant or toddler doesn't love pulling all the tissues/wipes out of the box and leaving them all over the house? With the hanky toy, your child can do that as much as they like without costing you the time, hassle, and money to clean up actual tissues. I've also added mini versions of my little beasties in fun Christmas prints, which make the perfect stocking stuffer! There's a very limited supply of these, so order them while you can. Leave a comment or share this post to be entered into the drawing for two little beasties! Happy holidays from Jess & her family, and the Little Beasties community! Family Pastimes makes our family's favorite games! Their artisan, cooperative games are super fun, beautifully designed, and build collaboration + cooperation in your family. What could be better? We love what this eco-friendly company is all about. It's a joy to welcome Jim Deacove, who is a dad and the founder of Family Pastimes, to the 12 Days of Christmas Gift Giving! Jim has been making games for 42 years, and his neighborly approach to business is a model and an inspiration. He is the creative mastermind, developer, and artist behind his games. Did I mention most of his cooperative, artisan games are on SALE FOR $10?! What a gift! Stock up this holiday season on Family Pastime games, my friends. Each game is a beautiful story, art piece, tool for teaching peace, and game made sustainably that your whole family will treasure. Comment on my Facebook page by midnight on December 3rd to enter to win two Family Pastimes cooperative games: Lost Puppies and Speedy Parcel. Winner chosen at random. Continental U.S. shipping only. Thank you Family Pastimes for keeping the hope alive that learning how to work together as a people can begin in each of our homes. What do you love about what you do? I am fortunate to be involved with all aspects of making and distributing the co-op games. I get to think up the ideas, test them around the valley we live in, do the artwork making use of my training in fine arts, and even do the printing, help with the gluing, diecutting, and assembly. For example, this morning I am assembling the Explorers games. I also love doing workshops and presentations because in the intensely competitive society we live in, even after 42 years of doing this, I still find that the public at large needs to be educated about what the experience of sharing and collaborating and finding non-violent ways to solve our difference is all about. Anyway, don’t get me started. It’s a different head space, for sure. As I tell Mary in this article, I get more excited at a Mennonite barn rising than I would at a Superbowl. What's your favorite game that you make? Either your all-time favorite or the best one to give as a holiday gift? My favorite game is always my last love child, so it has to be the Hungry Ones. As for a holiday gift from Family Pastimes, it’s best to give an age-appropriate game from a theme that you know will be of interest. (p.s. Megan's family's favorite games are Caves and Claws, Sleeping Grump, and Yard Sale--but there's not a Family Pastimes game that we don't like!) How to play The Hungry Ones: Spread seeds over the winter until spring, so all 8 visiting creatures get a share. If one or more creatures hog most of the seeds, sadly some will go hungry. Let us feed as many hungry creatures as we can and teach these little ones to share, so no one goes without. Do you have a favorite holiday family tradition to share? I play Santa in our tight-knit valley, visiting homes with children, knocking on doors, giving out games, pretending to be consulting my long list of names of children who have been good this year. I always ask for names that I know don’t live there, but am always amenable to adding the name of the child who happens to live at the door I’m knocking on. Thank you, Jim for being a modern day St. Nick! Head over to the Parenting for the Next Generation Facebook page by the stroke of midnight on December 3rd to win a Lost Puppies and Speedy Parcel game. Thank you, Jim and Family Pastimes for your awesome + artisan contribution to the world of family games! Learn more about the benefits of cooperation.... I've worked with Lotus for the last 12 years, every time I'm at a new crossroads or life transition. Lotus always helps me integrate and embrace my life to move forward. She's the real deal. It's a joy to offer you a sample of Lotus' profound and powerful work to nurture you this holiday season. Remember, Lotus' work to bring peace + nurturing to a special someone this holiday season. Thanks, Lotus for all you do for the world! What do you love about the work you do? In my experience, when we are centered, relaxed and at peace, we have more love to offer and more faith in the goodness of life. How is your work beneficial to people during the holiday season? Being balanced and grounded is so important to our quality of life. The hustle and bustle of the holidays can challenge these qualities. Distance Reiki gives a person the opportunity and an intentional reason to stop and be. To catch your breath. Rebalance. Energize. These simple things, in a short time, can make all the difference in the experiences of joy and connection with others during a time when we truly want to feel these aspects in our life. What is your favorite part of this time of year? The early darkness and shorter days of light bring on a slower pace found in comfy, warming stews & soups, baths, quiet time, candles, essential oils and tea. This is a time to nurture, and I love this part of the holiday season. Head on over to my Facebook page and enter to win a Distant Reiki Session with Lotus. Happy holiday season of giving, peace on earth, + nurturing you! This gift giving closes at 12 midnight on December 2nd. |
Mama Megan
Hi friends, I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative." This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family! Archives
