Assertiveness is your uniquely-you
power voice and way of being. Loving, nurturing, supportive with Clear boundaries and expectations. Assertiveness is a trait we don't see modeled very often. In Positive Discipline, it's called balancing kindness and firmness. We tend to be an either/or culture, but we need both in parenting, and in life ---at the same time. Think about someone who has presence, who means business, who people take seriously with a no-nonsense approach to life. But they are also respectful and kind. How can you embody this essence in your day-to-day moments of life? Another way to build assertiveness from within, is to say aloud to yourself, "I'm powerful" til you mean it. Then conjure up those feelings in moments of day-to-day life. The gentle power of Assertiveness is respectful to you and your children, and rooted in your individual power. Some people like to think of a big old tree Or a powerful animal to get in that space of gentle power. Assertiveness is not letting people walk all over you until you lose it. Assertiveness is not over-riding your needs or saying yes when you mean no. Assertiveness is you knowing what you want and believing that (for the most part) you can create what you want, even when challenges exist. That you deserve respect, and so do your children. To find that balance within you that is loving and strong, and then to communicate that in words to the people in your life. Assertiveness is a practice, and an art form. Have fun with finding your uniquely-you assertive voice, in parenting and in life. You got this, Megan

Mama Megan
Hi friends, I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative." This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family! Archives
