Happy Winter SolsticeAs we celebrate the return of the light - after the longest day of darkness of the year - it's a great time to check in with your inner candle. * Are your burning bright? * Or is the wind of life about to extinguish you? * How's your stress levels? What unnecessary stress can you let go of? * Does your vegetable intake and hydration levels outweigh your sugar consumption? Here's some of my favorite practical ways to recharge this holiday week, and musings on the light within us. 5 Ways to Keep Glowing Bright this Holiday Week #1 Yoga Nidra: Dare to Rest More recharging than a nap, this short "Daring to Rest" series is all free and so rejuvenating to counteract holiday stress. A well-rested parent is a more efficient parent. So, if you don't have the 15-20 minutes to dare to rest - then you need it even more! Click here to listen and recharge. #2 Make raw fudge, not (or in addition to) cookies. I'm not a sugar moderator. If I eat sugar, I eat a lot of it. Too much. Then within 3 days, I'm sick. Every time. This holiday season, I haven't had anything with white or brown sugar. But don't worry, I've made up for it in my caffeine intake. Oh well. I do like sweet, but I like subtly, delicately sweet. This raw fudge recipe is my favorite. It's too easy to make and a total crowd pleaser. #3 Soak up some Rumi. Struggling this time of year? You're not alone. Whenever I'm struggling, I like to recite this Rumi quote because "the wound IS the place where the light enters you." #4 Honor the whole world isn't Christian. This is such a great article: Our Jewish Kids Shouldn't Have to Lie About Santa. A worthy read for all Christmas-loving folks, Christian-raised parents who'd rather abandon the holiday, and I hope it resonates with parents of non-Christian religions. #5 Take a Forest Bath Especially if your nervous system is shot. Get outdoors! Whether it's a brisk walk or short meandering around your neighborhood or full on hike. Get outdoors to reboot the system forest bathing style. Here's my son and me forest bathing after our holiday meal 2015. You Got This Glowing Bright this Holiday Weekp.s. Remember to honor ALL the feelings, and it's ok to you FEEL all the feelings with many ups and downs this week. Also to keep it simple this week. Less is more. Slow down and enjoy. Mama Megan
Hi friends, I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative." This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family! Archives
